Mammogram (For women above age 40, or below 40 with a medical history of cancer)
This test detects the presence of cancerous lumps in the breasts, even before they can be felt.

Stool for Occult Blood
Colorectal cancer is the #2 women cancer. This test checks for hidden blood in stool samples, which may be a sign of cancer.

Chest X-Ray
Lung cancer is the #3 women cancer. This scan covers the lungs, heart and chest region, to check for abnormalities in the lung.

Ultrasound Pelvis
Ovarian cancer is the #5 women cancer. This scan assesses organs and structures within the female pelvis.

List of Screening Tests

  • Medical Consultation and Examination: During the consultation, the medical professional will typically ask questions about the patient’s medical history, current symptoms, and any other relevant information to help them better understand their health status. They may also ask about their lifestyle, diet, and exercise habits.

  • Body Analysis Index (BIA): A technique used to measure various parameters related to body composition, such as body fat percentage & lean body mass. It is non-invasive and involves passing a small electrical current through the body and measuring the resistance of different tissues to the current.

  • Urine and Stool Analysis: A urine sample is collected to examine substances such as glucose, protein, and red or white blood cells to provide information about kidney function & other urinary tract-related medical conditions. A stool analysis, on the other hand, checks for blood to provide information about digestive health including potential gastrointestinal bleeding.

  • Chest X-Ray: A diagnostic test that creates images of the organs and structures within the chest cavity, including the heart, lungs, blood vessels, and bones. It is commonly used to diagnose or monitor conditions such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung cancer, and heart enlargement.

  • ECG: A non-invasive test commonly used to detect and diagnose various heart conditions by providing information about the heart’s rate, rhythm, and electrical activity.

  • Pap Smear: The test involves collecting a sample of cells from the cervix to detect abnormal cells that may be precancerous or cancerous, allowing for early detection and treatment of cervical cancer. It may also be used to diagnose infections such as human papillomavirus (HPV), which can increase the risk of cervical cancer.

  • Blood Test: A blood sample provides valuable information about a person’s health status and can be used to diagnose or monitor a wide range of conditions such as elevated cholesterols, diabetes, kidney, liver & thyroid function as well as markers for specific cancers.
  • Ultrasound: High-frequency sound waves are used to produce images of the inside of the body and can be used to screen a variety of organs and structures in the body, including the abdomen, prostate,  pelvis, breasts, thyroid gland, and blood vessels.

  • Treadmill ECG: Also known as an exercise stress test or cardiac stress test, a treadmill ECG evaluates how the heart responds to physical activity and detects any abnormalities through changes in the captured wave patterns. The patient walks on a treadmill while their heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG are continuously monitored.

  • Mammogram: During a mammogram, the breast is compressed between two plates, and an X-ray image is taken to detect signs of breast cancer as well as benign lumps, calcifications & other abnormalities.

  • CT Scan: Uses X-rays and advanced computer technology to produce detailed images of the body’s internal structures to help diagnose a wide range of conditions, including cancers, other structural abnormalities and growth. It can be employed to examine different body parts, including the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis or to guide biopsies and other medical procedures.

  • MRI: A diagnostic imaging test that uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer to produce detailed images of soft tissues in the brain, spinal cord, and joints. However, patients with metal implants or pacemakers may not be able to have an MRI.

  • Semen Analysis: Provides important information about a man’s reproductive health and can help diagnose conditions such as low sperm count or poor sperm motility, which can contribute to infertility.

  • DEXA Scan: Also known as a bone density scan, the DEXA scan calculates the patient’s bone mineral density to determine the risk of osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become weak and brittle and are more likely to break.

Other Specialised Services

In line with the aim of providing comprehensive health screening to our patients, our clinic also offers other specialised medical services customised to the particular needs of various patient groups.

ANDROPAUSE MANAGEMENT

As men age, many will experience andropause, or a drop in testosterone levels. This may lead to sexual complications and can have an impact on your lifestyle in your silver years. Our Men’s Vitality Screening measures the levels of testosterone and other key hormones, as well as markers for silent diseases that are commonly associated with andropause.

MENOPAUSE MANAGEMENT

Menopause is a normal, natural event, associated with reduced functioning of the ovaries due to aging, resulting in lower levels of estrogen and other hormones. It marks the permanent end of fertility.

At Thomson Specialists, our specialist in Menopause Management aims to smoothen the transition of peri-menopausal women into menopause as uneventfully as possible, by managing these symptoms early.

OSTEOPOROSIS SCREENING

A “silent” disease, osteoporosis usually displays no signs or symptoms in the early stages. However, in the later stages, you may experience back pain, loss of height, stooped posture and fractures of the spine, wrists or hips. Through a DEXA scan to check your bone mass density, our doctors can assess your risk and make recommendations for prevention or treatment of osteoporosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on which checkup and screening you choose. Thomson Specialists’ basic health screening starts at $398, while a comprehensive checkup ranges from $1,578 to $3,188 based on your choice of screening.

A basic health screening in Singapore includes a medical consultation and examination, body index analysis, urine and stool analysis, X-Ray and ECG tests, as well as blood tests. Additional tests to detect cancers via scans may be included after your consultation.

You are highly advised to arrange for a full health screening in Singapore annually to facilitate prompt detection and earlier treatment of chronic and life-threatening conditions. Do consult with your doctor based on your current health status, risk factors, and previous health screening results.

A full health screening features the same tests as a basic health checkup, with additional tests such as treadmill ECG tests, bone mass density measurement, various ultrasound and MRI scans to detect structural issues including cancers as well as specific tests to address patient’s present medical concerns if any.

Common considerations when choosing a health screening package include your age, sex, and race, the presence of existing medical issues and family history of diseases, your available budget, as well as your immediate medical concerns. We offer a wide range of checkups and health screenings to suit every patient’s health profile and needs.

Following the completion of your health screening, our doctors will review your test results and provide lifestyle tips to promote healthy living. If any health issues are detected, our doctors will arrange the appropriate follow-ups within the centre or refer you to a relevant clinic for specialised treatment.

The average waiting time for a health screening report takes around 1 to 2 weeks. The health screening session may take about 3 to 4 hours depending on the health screening service you have selected.

Health screenings can detect several medical conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol and cancers such as colon, cervical and breast cancer. These diseases may not show symptoms in their early stages, which makes it even more important to attend medical checkups in Singapore for early detection and treatment.

Health screening is necessary when it comes to detecting medical conditions early in people who do not show any signs and/or symptoms of illness or disease. It is recommended to attend a health checkup in Singapore every one to two years and advisable to consult your doctor on any pre-existing health conditions before going for your medical checkup in Singapore.
